About the Author

TJ Sharitz

TJ Sharitz is the author of Control Freak: The Least Valuable Player, a powerful memoir about control, shame, surrender, healing, and the freedom found in trusting God.

A former All-American athlete, award-winning broadcaster, entrepreneur, husband, father, and storyteller, TJ brings a message that is honest, redemptive, and deeply relatable. His life has been marked by moments of pain, pressure, hidden struggle, and unexpected grace — from being diagnosed with dyslexia and held back in third grade, to navigating childhood trauma, business pressure, serious illness, and the exhausting need to appear strong and in control.

For years, TJ masked his pain with performance, humor, hustle, and achievement. But when control finally failed him, God began rewriting the story.

Today, TJ uses his voice to encourage students, families, churches, leaders, men’s groups, youth groups, and faith communities to stop carrying what they were never meant to carry, surrender control, and discover purpose in the pain. Through his book, speaking, video storytelling, and his Coincidence… or God? series, TJ shares real stories of surrender, faith, family, failure, healing, and the unmistakable grace of God in the details.

TJ and his wife, Jaci, live north of Atlanta in Cumming, Georgia, near beautiful Lake Lanier, along with their two beloved dogs — Dak, a loyal Rottweiler, and Layla, their brindle boxer. They enjoy spending time in their neighborhood, whether relaxing by the pool, unwinding in their backyard oasis, or heading out on the lake to take in the beauty of a sunset on the water.

Family is at the center of their lives, and one of their greatest joys is having both of their grown children living close by. They especially treasure hosting Sunday night family dinners, a time to gather, reconnect, and simply enjoy being together. Their daughter, Rachel, is an anesthesiologist assistant, and their son, Daniel, works in new business development for a commercial landscaping company.

At the heart of TJ’s message is a simple truth:
You do not have to carry what only God can hold.

Let's Go. Let God.

Julian of Norwich is credited with saying, "First there is the fall, and then we recover from the fall. Both are the mercy of God." TJ Sharitz's book, Control Freak, puts meat on the bones of this famous quote. After many falls and many times getting up, TJ has written a book that captures the hard knocks of his life and the mercy of God which helped him become the man he is today. Read this book and learn how TJ's experience might help you grow into the person you are meant to be. I don't think you will be disappointed. I wasn't. That's why I give it 5 stars.

Control Freak - that's me. TJ nailed it, opening my eyes and my heart to my own destructive, addictive control. Yes, I'm taking control (one last time), and making by husband and three college kids read this book too. Our college kids all have learning difficulties and will benefit from TJ's stories and tools he so honestly shares. Great inspirational book and resource for everyone.

Control – we all in some way have an addiction to control – do we acknowledge it? TJ has written a unique book that shows us it doesn’t matter which side of the tracks you come from, control can take hold of anyone. Raw, real, engaging, and heart wrenching at times bringing tears to my eyes. TJ exposes his life to bring healing to others – to know that we are not alone, and with Jesus it is all okay.
